Chapter 10: Secrets to SuccessOver the years I have often looked for a way to make money on the side, in addition to what my wife and I earned at our jobs. The paychecks often weren't enough to cover the cost of what we wanted or needed, and then all too many times in the past twenty years, I was unemployed or underemployed. Recently I heard that "with a wage, you make a living, with a profit, you make your fortune." I have also heard that you make a living from 9 to 5, but build a future from 5 to 9. Unfortunately, there isn't much of an entrepreneurial spirit in either my wife's family or mine, so it has been a learning curve for us. She dabbled with Tupperware and Avon at the beginning of the 1990s, we both did Amway after that, and I tried Primerica in 2003-2004. Then in 2008 I published my world history textbook. Most recently we have been involved with LegalShield Services. The LegalShield venture has been the most successful for us, so before I forget, here is a link to the LegalShield page on this site:
Anyway, those businesses recommend that you have a positive attitude, and so did some jobs I worked that involved sales. Books, tapes, and meetings were all used to generate the proper mindset for success. The purpose of this chapter is to share the secrets of success that I have learned in the process, to help you in your ventures. Since I don't know what kind of venture you are doing, I will keep the message generic. Except for the "How To Conquer Florida" page, I left out material that is only good for LegalShield. To quote Zig Ziglar, I will see you at the top! Disclaimer: This chapter has nothing to do with "Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time," a popular computer game from the mid-1990s. I'm saying that because the game offers "the secret of intergalactic success" to those who play it, but when you solve the puzzles, all you get is a silly picture. I will give credit where it's due, that game lives up to its name better than any other game I can think of! The success talked about here is real success, and you'll be glad that you did what it took to achieve it.
